Great Wizards (Open Skies)

The Great Wizards are the eight wizards who rule the Empire of the Sun. They collectively make up the Golden Council, which has the ultimate authority in every matter of empire business. They are lead by the Grand Wizard, and can be recognized by their glowing blue eyes, blue-enameled teeth, and legendary magical prowess.

Roles

There are eight roles on the council, and each wizard holds one position. They are:

• Grand Wizard: The Grand Wizard (also known as the Archmage) is responsible for supervising the council and is the Emperor of the Empire of the Sun.
• Loremaster: The Loremaster is responsible for safeguarding and ensuring the advance of the collective knowledge of mankind.
• Thaumaturgist: The Thaumaturgist is responsible for the extra-planar relations of the Empire of the Sun. It is his job to protect the Empire against the influence of fiends.
• Guardian: The Guardian is responsible for the security of the other Great Wizards and the Golden Tower itself.
• Contemplative: The Contemplative provides advice to all the other wizards. It is the Contemplative's responsibility to check the actions of the council should they run contrary to the good of the people of the Empire.
• Oracle: The Oracle is responsible for either knowing or being able to find out anything that is happening almost anywhere in the world. The Oracle is typically consulted by other wizards in the pursuit of their duties.
• Crusader: The Crusader's job is to serve the Empire at war, and to expand the security of the Empire as a whole by expanding its power.
• Panpriest: The Panpriest represents the interests of the Gods, and it is the Panpriest's responsibility to ensure that relations with both the divine world and the churches remain stable.

Formation

Eladi Minerson formed the first Golden Council when he constructed the Golden Tower. The wizards were drawn from his friends, family, and most loyal followers. All of them changed their names upon becoming a Great Wizard. In chronological order of induction, they were:

1. Grand Wizard Eladi, Grand Wizard.
2. Great Wizard Eiolia, Loremaster.
3. Great Wizard Enrio, Thaumaturgist.
4. Great Wizard Etheras, Guardian.
5. Great Wizard Ezerna, Contemplative.
6. Great Wizard Eternus, Oracle.
7. Great Wizard Erthza, Crusader.
8. Great Wizard Equoli, Panpriest.
