FATE

FATE is a project that seeks to archive the stories, statistics, encyclopedic data, and legacies of the table-top role-playing campaigns undertaken by an informal association of players originally based in upstate New York. This series of campaigns, first begun in December 2003, has continued more or less unbroken to the present day. The purpose of this archive is not only to preserve the memory of these campaigns for posterity, but to make their resources available for sequels, spinoffs, expansions, and adaptations in the future.

With some exceptions, most of these campaigns tell self-contained tales set in original mythopoeic worlds, following the lives of the player characters, whose actions, personalities and relationships are acted by the players in an improvisational manner. A campaign may take place over the course of several months, or even a year, comprised of weekly sessions, interspersed with supplemental one-on-one events and other media.

The majority of these rely on the ubiquitous Dungeons & Dragons game rules to provide a mechanical basis of gameplay. Over time, however, the characters, settings, tones, and overall styles of the campaigns have evolved an atmosphere, complexity and immersion far beyond the high fantasy stereotypes of D&D. In particular, the branch of campaigns which are played over the Internet via instant messaging now bear a closer resemblance to collaborative writing projects. It is because of both their unconventional literary quality and their personal significance to those involved that we have decided to gather the records of these experiences in a permanent reference.

FATE is named for the eponymous database in the Hex campaign, which stored the knowledge and memories of an entire civilization until their world could be rebuilt. We sincerely hope that this archive is less ill-fated.

Following the unification of the known world, the players are entrusted with the less desirable warriors of the Empire of the Sun and sent across the sea to discover what they will. Set in a classic high-fantasy setting, the campaign is meant to be visually bright and open ended. Qadir Kivi al-Masheem is a male Synad with psionic abilities who has been legally forced to participate in the expedition across the sea. Kiral Jawara Azeem is a general under Dvalinn Ironspear with a talent in divine magic, especially the creation and control of the undead. Cyra Kaveh Melchior is a captain under Dvalinn Ironspear with a command of psionic power and the loyalty of those dear to her.

White Rose Online February 2009 to May 2010 Cortex RPG

The One with the Extended Metaphors.

A low-fantasy political/wartime drama. The story revolves around three leading members of a resistance movement, the Order of the White Rose, formed to combat the oppressive monarchy of the city-state of Macha. The focus is placed on the complexities of the PCs' actions, agendas and contrasting philosophies toward war, crime, terrorism, torture, and morality - in short, the human experience of revolution. The campaign is played with a vastly diminished focus on rules and mechanics, and much more on artistic and storytelling accomplishments. The scale is deliberately sub-epic, and somewhat postmodern in its treatment of cosmic forces: while historical, spiritual and even religious forces are acting in direct support of the plot, they do so in a way that stops short of dictating events and serve, instead, to impart the personal sagas of Soraya North, Sasha Maslov Durnovo and Matthew Shepard with an atmosphere of multi-dimensional significance.
